Birthday Girl - 1 Year Old

Stella skyping with oma and opa traveling in Turkey. Celebrating with Eloise and Arthur. Not too sure about the chocolate zucchini cupcakes, Stella had to be coaxed through the first couple bites, coating the cake with yogurt. After a few spoonfuls she managed the cake on its own. Following Chinese custom, we played zhuā zhōu(抓周) a traditional ritual for predicting a child's future career and certain personality traits. It is done on a child's first birthday. We created our own pile of items, tending away from electronics like an iphone as she would go straight for it. You can see Stella go first, then Eloise, then Arthur.

tape measure - architect
20 CHF - finance
spatula - chef
shoe - athlete
thermometer - medical doctor
book - philosopher/teacher
flag - politician
pen - writer
safety glasses - scientist
sunglasses - actor

A story from Gma & Gpa

She pulled the book off the shelf and opened it on her own. I heard my mom's voice singing and came to investigate...

Eating with a Spoon, and Soooo Polite

Driving a Chariot

They call it a chariot in French so we've ended up calling it the same in English. She loves it despite the fact that she can't steer and is trapped by the walls of the flat.

Holiday in St. Remy de Provence

While touring Les Baux, I was wondering why people kept pointing to Stella. Arno finally took a photo so I could see how she had conked out in the backpack! Thanks for the great holiday mom & dad!

Wednesday in the Park with Mom

Swiss National Day in Zermatt

We love this car-free village and found a very baby friendly hotel to spend the 1st of August weekend. It was her 9 month birthday and she learned to crawl and pull herself up all on the same day. She was a champion hiker, either waving to people or sleeping in the backpack.

Eye on the Prize

See what motivates her to crawl across the room. I don't know what her generation will be called. Maybe the 'i' generation?

Dancing to Dutch

Thanks Maarten, she loves the book and we are grateful that the volume has two levels - loud and quiet. Guess where we keep it?

More family fun

Hanging out at the Lake with the grandparents

First transatlantic trip

Her first INSEAD event

We were about to go to the big gala ball for the evening. This is in her super-chub phase before she started moving around more, boy does she look chubby! Thanks for babysitting Oma and Opa!

And a few weeks later, she becomes assertive at dinner.

At the pool with Papa

Arno and Stella joined me in Malaga for a business trip and scored a couple of firsts: first fever, first flight, first hotel room.

Stella in the swimming pool

Happy Feet!

We decided to try and make a cast of Stella's hands & feet after seeing this do it yourself kit at the local store. The amount of material was in the end enough to do one foot so the rest might follow later :)

Daddy's birthday!

Daddy celebrated his 40th birthday and had his good friends Chris & Maarten over for the weekend. Mommy made daddy a super yummy cheese cake that Stella wasn't allowed to eat :( However Stella was the star of the weekend; in fresh green colors to celebrate the arrival of spring she stole everyone's hearts!

Odd eating style

Well, we tried carrots, potatoes, and applesauce from a spoon with no success. We then tried baby biscuits which she gnawed on until they dissolved, licking the crumbs off the table. Tonight we put some applesauce on the table with the crumbs and she proceeded to eat it with her fingers. So, we think she IS ready to eat, just her way, without a spoon. This might get messy.

I got shots and I don't like carrots.

Immunizations...poor thing. And she's not too fond of carrots yet.
Inentingen...arme ding. En ze is niet zo gek op wortelen nog niet.
